Seventh chords are four-note chords consisting of a root note, a third, a fifth, and a seventh. They are more complex and colorful than basic triads because they include the seventh note of the scale. Seventh chords come in different types, such as major seventh, minor seventh, dominant seventh, and diminished seventh, each with its own unique sound and function in music. They are commonly used in jazz, blues, and other genres to add richness and tension to chord progressions. **

A dominant seventh chord is a four-note chord consisting of a root note, a major third, a perfect fifth, and a minor seventh. It is often denoted with the symbol "7" after the root note (e.g. G7). The dominant seventh chord has a strong, unresolved sound due to the dissonant interval between the major third and minor seventh, making it a common choice for creating tension and leading to a resolution in music. In functional harmony, the dominant seventh chord often resolves to the tonic chord, creating a sense of finality and completion. **
